It's usually an expensive endeavor, but thanks to smartphones, you can try your hand at shooting and editing video without the staggering price.

Functions: A self-described "movie maker," Magisto lets you experiment with basic edits, like trims, filters and transitions. You can also throw in background music and edit sound effects.
