Many rumors claim that Apple plans to use sapphire glass for iPhone 6, but new analyst suggests that sapphire glass will also function as a solar charging.

On Seeking Alpha analyst Matt Margolis thinks Apple might be inscribing solar panels within sapphire glass screens for the next iPhone.

iPhone 6 and iPod may come this year with a display capable of increasing battery life. Seeking Alpha believes He has found evidence that sapphire glass wich will actually include tiny solar panels that help you charging your iPhone batteries by using the power of the sun.

Margolis’ extensive analysis of Apple’s recent actions shows that the company has a variety of patents on solar charging capabilities for computer and mobile devices that have been discovered last year, describing ways of charging a laptop, smartphone or tablet battery through solar cells.

The analyst also points that Apple has recently posted job ads looking for a Thin Films Engineer with solar experience in September 2013, a job that may also include responsibilities such as using lasers to add solar cells in sapphire glass, and was hired to develop and refine thin film technology. These positions are related to Apple’s mobile business.

The analyst noted that The company in early november 2013  revealed it signed a $578 million contract with GT Advanced Technologies for sapphire cover displays. The company also announced plans to spend $10.5 billion in 2014, on new production technology including robots and lasers. And it was just reported that Apple manufacturing partner Foxconn recently assembled at least 100 prototype units of the next iPhone with sapphire displays. Margolis also believes that Apple may have placed a $68 million order for solar coating equipment from Manz AG based in Germany.

In addition to all of this, Margolis points that sapphire manufacturer GT has been able to significantly reduce the cost of sapphire glass, from $13-18 to just $3-5 per screen. That makes it a financially viable alternative to currently Corning’s Gorilla Glass, that costs $3 per screen.

Of course none of this is a sure bet that Apple regarding any sapphire-related plans for the iPhone 6 at this time. In an interview last week, Tim Cook did confirm that the Arizona investment is related to sapphire glass without expanding on the matter.
