The New Version of iPhone SE Could Launch in May Keeping the Same Design, Without 3.5mm Headphone Jack

We might see the second generation of iPhone SE in May according to a report interviewing iPhone case makers at the Global Sources Mobile Electronics tradeshow in Hong Kong, the new iPhone SE version will keep the same design but without the 3.5mm headphone jack and potentially the lack of 3D Touch too.

The report published at Japanese website Mac Otakara claims company representatives are anticipating the announcement of the device in May, and the physical device will be the same as the previous iPhone SE including the usage of Touch ID instead of adopting current Face ID that depends on TrueDepth camera, the iPhone SE has four-inch display sandwiched between top and bottom bezels for the home button, camera, and earpiece.

As aforementioned 3.5mm headphone jack will be eliminated in “iPhone SE 2” if it’s true this will make the iPhone 6s family the only phones sold by Apple have the ancient connector while some prominent smartphone makers continuing to maintain the jack as Samsung did with its recent flagship phones Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus.

Like iPhone 8, 8Plus, and iPhone X the second-generation iPhone SE could have a glass back to enable Qi wireless charging as earlier rumors claimed but there is no conclusive evidence confirms that as the report's discussions suggest.

Apple announced the original iPhone SE on March 21, 2016, making it two years old, the term is very appropriate to expecting a soon upgrade, making it a two-year replacement cycle.

The first iPhone SE features an A9 processor chip like the iPhone 6s, the current iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X are running by A11 Bionic, earlier reports claim that the second iPhone SE will come with A10 Fusion processor like one in iPhone 7 and 7 Plus beside 2GB of RAM and 32GB or 128GB storage availability. A10 is 40 percent faster than A9, and will likely enable support for the HEIF image format and HEVC video compression standard.

Like its predecessor iPhone SE 2 will as earlier reports mentioned lack 3D Touch sensing, the feature that appeared with the iPhone 6s, considering iPhone SE 2 as an inexpensive smartphone, Apple has to sacrifice like this feature.

The rumors about a new version of iPhone SE start emerging in November predicting its arrival in the first-half of 2018 and be manufactured by a Wistron facility in India. While another report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who relays information from Apple's supply chain in Asia cast some doubts on those rumors due Apple doesn't have enough spare development resources to focus on releasing another iPhone.

Apple before launching new devices takes some procedures as a legally required, last Wednesday it filed several unreleased iPhone models with the Eurasian Economic Commission like this action usually precede the product launch as it happens with last 9.7-inch iPad generation, Apple submitted the tablet in February and debuted in March.

There are many users preferred the four-inch iPhone size than others, the current iPhone SE looks much like the iPhone 5s, and it has 2GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel rear camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Touch ID.
