The front cameras in the all 2019 iPhones will feature a 12-megapixel single-lens instead of 7-megapixels we found in the current iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, according to a research note published by well-respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
The note added that the next iPhone versions with OLED display, which are the iPhone XS with 5.8-inch and the iPhone XS Max with 6.5-inch, will feature 12MP triple-lens rear cameras functioning as a telephoto lens, a wide-angle lens, and a super-wide-angle lens supplied exclusively by Sony.
We forecast the camera upgrade will be one of the new 2H19 iPhone's major selling points. Critical spec upgrades are as follows. (1) Rear cameras of 6.5-inch OLED, 5.8-inch OLED, and 6.1-inch LCD will likely upgrade to triple-camera and dual-camera, respectively. A super-wide camera will be newly adopted by the triple-camera system, which is equipped with the 12MP/1um CIS provided exclusively by Sony. (2) The front camera of all three new iPhone models will likely upgrade to 12MP CIS+5P lens (vs. current 7MP CIS+4P lens).Coinciding with the previous report from WSJ, Kuo believes the next iPhone XR with a 6.1-inch display will feature dual-lens camera system instead of a single 12MP wide-angle lens built in the current version, though he doesn't provide megapixels and capabilities or any other camera details for that model.
The research note says that the added super-wide-angle lens and the front camera lens on the next iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will be covered by a "black lens-coating technologies," making the lenses look "inconspicuous” as an earlier report mentioned to that new coating technology too.
Frequent rumors about the adoption of triple-lens on the next iPhones and how they will affect the iPhone aesthetic it has proved quite controversial, but the applying of this coating should blend the far-right lens into the black bezels keeping a pleasing look.
OnLeaks was the first one who leaked the triple-lens camera prototype pictures.
The chart below is from the research note:
Kuo says the release of the new iPhones will be in the second half of 2019, and this no a revelation, Apple since 2012 releases new iPhones in September, as it did last year when the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max became available to order on September 14, while the lower-cost iPhone XR delayed until October 19.
