Oppo Comes with "World's First" Under-Screen Selfie Camera

Chinese mobile maker Oppo today announced its innovative solution to all-over display notches that we find in many of nowadays modern phones, which is presented in "world's first" Under-Screen Camera(USC).

The new technology that enables for the full-screen display, Oppo teased it earlier this month, and today at Shanghai's Mobile World Congress was the occasion for demonstrating the precedent feature to the public.

To make this happens, Oppo says the selfie camera system is embedded under a section of the display that is consisting of highly transparent custom material using a special pixel structure, which enables light to pass through to the lens.

The selfie camera will be wider in this sort of the new combination compared to the other normal front-facing cameras, consisting of a wider aperture lens in front of the sensor.

To make the camera under the screen at the same quality level of the unobstructed camera, Oppo admitted that it's harder, however, the company said it has developed software algorithms to address color cast issues, glare, and haze, leading to pictures that are "on par with mainstream devices."

This company claiming will be not guaranteed until the tech becomes in hands, up to now it's not determined when the under-screen camera will debut in the customer products, but Oppo mentions that the device with USC is planned to be released "in the near future."

It's not the first time Oppo distinguishes itself from the others in terms of the mobile camera, in February it released a 10x optical zoom camera system for phones, and last month launched its flagship One Plus 7 Pro smartphone, which features a pop-up selfie camera and bezel-free display.

Apple's 2019 iPhones are expected to come equipped with a three-lens rear camera system, including wide, telephoto, and ultra-wide, keeping the same design with a bezel-free display featuring a notch like the current models, while some rumors have claimed that the size of this year iPhones notch could be a little bit smaller.
