With the release of iOS 13 Apple introduced the long-awaited system-wide Dark Mode feature as it did last year with Mac when it features the Dark Mode in macOS Mojave, the Darke Mode can be activated on an iPhone or iPad through Control Center or Settings app as you can see in the steps below, and also can be set to start manually or automatically.
When the Dark Mode is turned on the appearance of the operating system will change to dark entirely, from wallpaper and the Home screen to individual apps.
How to enable the Dark Mode on your iPhone or iPad through Control Center
Enabling the Dark Mode through Control Center is a handy and quick option.
- 1- Open Control Center on your iPhone or iPad, swipe down from the upper-right corner on iPhone X and newer or swipe up from the bottom of the screen if you have iPhone 8 or older models.
- 2- Hold down on the Brightness slider, which contains a sun-like icon.
- 3- In the full-screen that pops up, you will see an Appearance Light option in the bottom-left corner, tap on it to switch between light and dark.
How to enable Dark Mode on your iPhone or iPad through the Settings app
The activation of the Dark Mode via the Settings app it's also simple even it seems like a long way.
- 1- Launch the Settings app.
- 2- Tap on Display & Brightness.
- 3- On the Display & Brightness screen you will have two configurations on the top for Light or Dark, tapping on the Dark you will be in the Dark Mode.
Below the top section, you will see an Automatic option enabling it will change your iPhone automatically to Dark Mode between sunset and sunrise. In this example, it is set by default to start from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
If you want to customize Dark Mode for a certain time to start automatically instead of the entire night (sunset to sunrise) tap on the Automatic option and then in the new screen tap on Custom Schedule.
New wallpapers for Dark Dark Mode features
Apple added several wallpapers that turn colors from light to dark depending on which mode you have activated.
Preinstalled and third-party apps in Dark Mode
The stock apps on your iPhone or iPad with the installation of iOS 13 have already the setting to make their themes darker from Messages to the Settings app and Apple Music, Apple has also provided API to developers letting them implement Dark Mode in their third-party apps.
There are many Apple's apps support the Dark Mode and the company puts a lot of effort into the feature, the Maps app had already it but now it activates automatically when Dark Mode is turned on.
Safari browser has a dark them too but the feature looks more effective when the websites support Dark Mode themselves such as the Apple's website.
The Phone app, the App Store, the Reminder app, and even the Home app have Dark Mode themes, as do other apps like Wallet, and Health app.
Why many iPhone users have asked for Dark Mode
Someone could ask why many users prefer the Dark Mode, actually for many reasons such as its aesthetic appearance, easier for eyes by reducing glare from predominantly white interfaces --generally it's a perfect choice in low-light environment, saving battery in devices with OLED displays like the iPhone X, XS, and XS Max, which can illuminate individual pixels without the usage of any backlight, and more.At this period of time, iOS 13 with Dark Mode is available for registered developers and public beta testers, while the official launch of the iOS 13, iPadOS and other Apple's new operating system updates will be this fall, the iOS 13 update includes tons of new features you can take a look at them by tapping here, and there are also many other changes and hidden features you can check them out here.
