Apple last week on June 3 at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2019) announced new operating systems for its devices: Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple TV, in addition to new hardware: a new Mac Pro, and "Pro Display XHD" a 6K Retina display, Apple has made the audience excited during the keynote period with these new features, as many of Apple customers and followers knowledge.


In this post will focus on some prominent features that Apple included in the new iPhone and iPad(now the iPad version is renamed to iPadOS) operating system iOS 13.



Under-the-hood performance improvements


Despite the abundance of new features in iOS 13 compared to iOS 12, that doesn't remind Apple to focus on the under-the-hood performance, the company brought many needed improvements, it reduced the app downloaded sizes by up to 50 percent, which lead to improving app update times, the launch of apps are now twice as fast, and on the devices with Face ID the unlock process with Face ID is 30 percent faster than iOS 12.



Dark Mode feature

When it comes to the appearance the iOS 13 looks a lot like iOS 12, but the new iOS includes a match desired system-wide Dark Mode feature, that will turn the entire OS including the apps to dark, the Dark Mode feature can be toggled manually or to be set on schedule like to be started at sunset and ended at sunrise.



Photos and the Camera app

Many apps have received updates but the most one that revamped significantly is the Photos app, the Photos app in iOS 13 has now a new main view that organizes and accurate the Photos Library to spotlight a selection of photos by day, month, or year, it's a well-ordered way to get a look back at your dearest memories, and the videos in this new view is in autoplay.

To make quick tweaks to your images the photo editing interface has been overhauled in the Camera app to make it easier, and Apple added new Portrait Lighting adjustments enabling the user to move the light closer or further away depending on their desire.



The volume HUD

Another long-awaited feature is the volume HUD, which is now overhauled, the volume up/down indicator is less obtrusive, located either at the side of your iPhone display or at the top, depending on the orientation of your device.



Find My app

Apple in iOS 13 combined Find My iPhone app and Find My Friends into one app called Find My, the new app is equipped with one of the best new features Apple announced that enables users to track their Apple devices even when they are offline by leveraging other nearby iOS devices, to run the feature Apple create an anonymized, secure, and encrypted connection between those devices.



Sign In with Apple

Apple in iOS 13 released a new Sign In with Apple as an option to sign into apps and websites, the feature in addition to its convenience it is a major privacy-protecting change, Sign In with Apple uses your Apple ID authenticating your account with your Face ID or Touch ID, the feature also enables app to generate a single-use randomised emails so people behind these apps and services never know your real info or who you are.

The Maps app in iOS 13 has broader road coverage, more detailed land cover, and updated pedestrian data, the updated Maps app also includes a coolest new feature called Look Around, which is an Apple version of Google's Street View.



Messages app

Messages app gained a new Profile feature allows you to share your name and photo with people, the app also received many other new Memoji customization options, Apple this time added three new Animoji characters: a cow, octopus, and mouse, Animoji/Memoji stickers have been added so you can use them in Messages, Mail, and other apps.



CarPlay, AirPods, HomPod

CarPlay features a new interface allowing it to show more items in addition to other performance improvements. AirPods has a new feature enables you to share what you're listening with a friend by pairing two sets of AirPods to a single iPhone. HomPod now supports Handoff feature so you can hand over music, podcast, or a phone call from iOS device to The HomPod just by placing your iPhone near it, and Siri in HomPod can recognize voices of family members, so everyone can have their own profile.



HomeKit for routers

The routers in iOS 13 are able to be controlled and customized through the Home app on your iPhone, with the release of iOS 13 Apple provides HomeKit for routers, additionally, Apple provides a new neat security feature ensures that recorded video is analyzed right on your device and then sent via an encrypted stream to iCloud, avoiding anyone to spy on your in-home cameras.



QuickPath keyboard

Apple in iOS 13 added a new swipe-based QuickPath keyboard, which enables you to type a whole word without lifting your finger, allowing for easier one-handed typing, with smoother cursor movements and scrolling improvements.



Health app

The Health app gained a new feature for monitoring the hearing health, warning you when there is an inappropriate environment for your hearing, and also there is a new Cycle Tracking addition for tracking menstrual cycle, there are also many iPad-specific changes.



Siri, Reminders app and more

Siri features a new natural voice, Reminders app has been revamped and made more useful in iOS 13 by, using the quick toolbar you can add time, date, location, photos and more, Calendar app is redesigned, for more details and others tweaks that Apple made on other apps visit a dedicated page on the Apple website.

Currently, iOS 13 is only available for registered developers, and Apple warns for those who aren't risk taker to wait until the release of public beta updates, which is going to debut in July, right now iOS 13 version is riddled with bugs and doesn't ideal for daily usage experience, if you're keen to play with these new features you should install the new iOS in your secondary device.

The iOS 13 is compatible with iPhone SE, iPhone 6S, 6S Plus, and newer models, and not compatible with iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The official release of the new iOS is expected to be in September alongside the launch of this year new iPhone lineup.
