Smartphone shipments declined in China 10 percent on year-over-year basis through the days of China's Golden Week, a national holiday and the hottest sales period, expended from 1 to 7 October, this result obtained by Apple well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a research note received by some interested websites last week, the cumulative decrease shipments are from four major Chinese brands; Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi.

The shipments estimated to be 6.5-7 million units through Golden Week were” lower than expected” as Kuo said who is working for research firm TF International Securities, he added that the only brand knows year-over-year increase shipments during that week is Huawei, called it the “major winner.”

Lack of innovative selling points among Chinese-brand smartphones is one of the most reason behind year-over-year decline as Kuo attributed. The analyst is optimistic about the handsets that adopted triple-lens cameras and fingerprint sensors under the display, but he mentioned that only limited models are now supporting for two functions at once.

The current trade war between the US and China Kuo cautioned “may be affecting consumer confidence, which makes the replacement cycle longer."

Some Chinese customers especially iPhone users will choose for more affordable legacy iPhone models or wait for the coming iPhone XR, one other reason Kuo has mentioned, he also predicted that the replacement demand for the iPhone XR will be better than last year demand for iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

The golden week gives Kuo a good sample to analyze how the whole smartphone Chinese market will be, he said the whole might be “lower than expected.” on a year-over-year basis the shipments may decline 10-15 percent to 410 million according to Kuo.

The research note shared with investors Thursday mentioned that to ensure its growing Chinese brands have to rely on overseas markets. On this side Kuo looks at Huawei as a brand that has "the best competitiveness among Chinese brands in overseas markets," the note said.

iPhone XR could help Apple to strengthen its presence in Greater China region and increase its market share, where it has faced increased competition from companies like Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi.

Considered as an entry-level of 2018 iPhone lineups, at starting price of $745, iPhone XR has lacked some features we found on the flagship iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, like OLED display, dual-lens camera, and 3D Touch, but they identical in many tech specs like edge-to-edge design, Face ID, A12 Bionic chip and more, and even has more battery life than more expensive models.

The iPhone XR will be available in Apple retail stores and eligible third-party stores on Friday, October 26, pre-orders beginning Friday, October 19 in more than 50 countrie.
