Apple on Tuesday launched new Smart Battery Cases for its last iPhone lineup that includes iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR.
The cases are designed to add extra battery life to these iPhones, the battery pack is housed in the bump at the back of the case, like the past cases for iPhone 7, 6, and 6S Apple keeps the same design. The new Smart Cases are available in black or white each one is priced at $129.
Depending on the device each case provides a certain amount of battery life, when iPhone XS Smart Battery Case is paired with the iPhone XS it provides up to 21 hours of internet usage, up to 33 hours of talk time and up to 25 hours of video playback.
The iPhone XS Max, when combined with its Smart Battery Case, offers up to 20 hours of internet use, up to 37 hours of talk time, and up to 27 hours of video playback.
The iPhone XR with its dedicated Smart Battery Case provides up to 22 hours of internet usage, up to 39 hours of talk time, and up to 27 hours of video playback.
Since the introduction of the iPhone 7, Apple hasn't released the Battery Case, presumably because of the Qi wireless charging technology that it adopted in the iPhone 8, iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. The large version of the iPhones have never had Battery Cases, the past Battery Cases versions limited to the iPhone 6, iPhone 6S, and iPhone 7.
However, back in December when rumors surfaced, claimed that Apple was in the works to introduce a version that it is compatible with Qi-wireless charging. Apple's product listings confirmed that new cases are working appropriately with Qi-certified wireless chargers.
On the same approach with previous Smart Battery Case, Apple provides intelligent battery status on iPhone Lock screen and in Notification Center, the user will be aware of how much battery is remaining.
With these new cases customers are able to charge them wirelessly or via Lightning connector, Apple mentioned that faster charging is also available via USB-PD compatible chargers, some Lightning accessories such as the EarPods with Lightning Connector are compatible too.
