Apple's Notes App icon

Apple's Notes app has a feature enables you to scan your documents such as letters, receipts, recipes and even photos and save them into your iOS device, that help you to digitize your printed-based content and get rid of unnecessary bulky papers from your home or office, in addition to the ability to access your interested information within a printed document just from your accompanied iPhone or iPad whenever you're, and also the ability to share and send it online.

The Notes app is a preinstalled app you don't have to download it from Apple's App Store, if you use it frequently you can add it to Control Center. Notes app also contains an option to convert your printed document to a PDF file, we will see that and how to scan your documents in the following steps.



How to scan a document on your iPhone using the Notes app

  • 1- From the Home screen tap on the Notes app icon to launch the app.

  • 2- once the app is opened and you are in a new note file tap on the "+" button that is located on the bottom middle of the screen.

  • 3- After the tap on "+" button a pop-up window should appear with four options, choose "Scan Documents."

  • 4- Once the "Scan Documents" option is hit your iPhone camera will function and the camera screen will appear, to initiate the scanning direct your iOS device camera to the document, it should automatically locate the document and highlights it in yellow.

  • 5- Your iPhone will automatically capture the document once it is all highlighted in yellow, you can also do that manually by tapping on the circle white button if it's needed.

Your document will be saved as a note and can be easily accessed and sent via a message, email, or to share it.


How to create a PDF file from your saved scanned note


If you want to generate a PDF file from your scanned document, which is saved as a note:
  • 1- Once you are in the scanned document note simply tap on the "Share Sheet" button, which is a box with an arrow pointing upwards at the upper right of the screen.

  • 2- As usual when a Share Sheet has accessed a set of options will appear, then you should choose to Create a PDF.

  • 3- Once a PDF file of your scanned document is generated you will be offered to save it to Files app or to tap on the Share Sheet icon to share your new PDF file elsewhere.


How to add Notes app to iPhone Control Center to scan documents quickly


If you tend to scan documents several times a day you should cut down the steps by adding the Notes app to your iPhone's Control Center, as described below:

  • 1- From your iPhone's Home screen launch the "Settings" app.

  • 2- in the "Settings" app tap on Control Center.

  • 3- Tap "Customise Controls" to move to "Customise" section.

  • 4- In the "More Controls" tap the green "+" button list beside Notes entry.

Now the Notes app will show in the Control Center.



How to scan a document from the iPhone Control Center


  • Once the Notes app is accessible via Control Center, then from there you should press hard or long on the Notes icon.

  • From the pop-up menu tap "Scan Document" option and allow the Face ID / Touch ID to authenticate you.

  • Once your camera is launched you're ready to scan a document and save it as a note.
