Apple in iOS 12 added a new feature to Do Not Disturb, helping you to sleep well without getting distracted with your iPhone, the new feature is a setting mode allows you to quiet your iPhone entirely during the bedtime.
A lot of us wake up at the midnight to check the time and surprisingly, a bunch of notifications shows off to you demanding your attention or tempting you to open up some apps, which makes you sometimes difficult to get back to sleep again.
With the bedtime mode is turned on, when you activate the display on your iPhone is dimmed and black, only showing up the time, the state of the battery charge, and the moon symbol with a message telling you that the Bedtime Mode is enabled.
When your device is in this mode, all incoming calls, notifications, and alerts will be silenced and disappeared from the Lock Screen, while they are listed in the Notification Center, and you can access them by swiping down from the top of your display.
How to enable Bedtime Mode
- 1- From the Home screen launch the Settings app.
- 2- Scroll down and tap on the "Do Not Disturb" option.
- 3- When you are in the Do Not Disturb section turn on the "Scheduled" option.
- 4- Once the Scheduled is toggled on now you're able to set Do Not Disturb period, which is for most people the time when you go to bed until the wake up's time.
- 5- Now tap on the "Bedtime Mode" to turn it on.
What's the difference between Bedtime Mode and Do Not Disturb
When the Do Not Disturb is turned on without the Bedtime Mode, your incoming calls and notifications will be silenced while are still visible right from the Lock Screen, unlike what we saw when the Bedtime Mode is enabled where the notifications are not shown on the Lock Screen.
How to allow someone to call you even the Do Not Disturb is enabled
Do Not Disturb feature has an option enables you to allow family members or someone else in your iPhone Contacts to call you even Do Not Disturb and Bedtime Mode is turned on.
- 1- Launch the Settings app from your iPhone Home screen.
- 2- Tap on " Do Not Disturb" option.
- 3- in the Do Not Disturb section scroll down to " Allow Calls From"
- 4- Then in "Allow Calls From" section you can choose Everyone, No One, or "Favorites," which can be set from the Contacts app.
In Do Not Disturb section in the Settings app you can turn on the "Repeated Call" so a second call from the same person within three minutes won't be silenced.
How to allow a specific person to call you when Do Not Disturb is turned on
There is also a method through the Contacts app enables you to allow a specific contact to call you, by enabling "Emergency Bypass," to do so:- 1- Open the "Contacts" app.
- 2- Select the desired contact and tap on "Ringtone."
- 3- In the Ringtone section turn on "Emergency Bypass." to allow a specific person to call you when Do Not Disturb is turned on.
Now this person will contact you even when Do Not Disturb and Bedtime Mode are turned on.
Waking up and the Bedtime period is ended
When it is time to wake up and the period time of the Bedtime Mode is terminated and the Do Not Disturb is turned off your iPhone will display a "Good Morning" message, enabling you to tap on the screen to disclose all the notifications that were sent during the night.How to turn off Bedtime Mode
If Bedtime Mode isn't for you and you want to turn it off, you can do so from the Settings app where it's enabled from.
- 1- Launch the Settings app.
- 2- Scroll down and tap on "Do Not Disturb"
- 3- Then turn off "Scheduled" if you want to disable the entire scheduled Do Not Disturb session.
- 4- If you want to keep Do Not Disturb on and just Bedtime Mode will be disabled, tap on the Bedtime Mode toggle to turn it off.
Control Center virtually includes Do Not Disturb which presented by a moon symbol, offering a quick way to access the feature by 3D Touch or long press on the moon icon.
Entering to Do Not Disturb from the Control Center will provide you with options to enable the feature for an hour, a few hours, until you leave your current location, or until the end of an event, and at the bottom of the pop-up window you will find the "Schedule" option that will move you straight to the Do Not Disturb toggles in the Settings app.
