The current iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch’ operating system iOS 12 is installed on 83 percent of devices launched last four years, according to statistics shared by Apple on the App Store support page for developers.
The iOS 12 officially released on September 17, following the iPhone XS, and the iPhone XS Max launch. Apple with iOS 12 release has added a new element on its statistic data, instead of offering the installation rate of all devices, now it split the statistics to the devices released last four years and all devices.
While 83 percent of the four years devices are running iOS 12, 80 percent of all active devices were installed the iOS 12 update, 12 percent of devices are still using iOS 11, the earlier OSs are running on 5 percent of the last four years devices, and on 8 percent of all devices.
The last time Apple Shared the iOS 12 installation rate was at the beginning of January, at that point of time iOS 12 was installed on 78 percent of devices, since then the iOS 12 adoption rate have growth 5 percent. Back in October Apple noted that iOS 12 was installed on 53 percent of the last four year devices.
Since the beginning of January Apple released two minor updates; iOS 12.1.3 and 12.1.4, which were bug fix updates, alongside with the release of iOS 12.2 betas for developers and public testers, the iOS 12.2 brought in some here and there user interface changes, new Animoji characters, and expanded the Apple News to Canada.
Compared to iOS 11, iOS 12 is more adopted, in April 2018 the iOS 11 update was just installed on 76 percent of devices. The iOS 11 was plagued with many bugs on its lifetime, it could be the main reason behind that tepidity adoption.
Just months, the focus will shift to the iOS 13, Apple usually previous its new operating systems at its Worldwide Developers Conference, which is expected to be in June, the iOS 13 is rumored to include some prominent features such as a long-awaited dark mode and iPad-specific updates.
